Is the time-optimal carry's speed-limited advantage just the min-jerk profile's shape?

research/robofab-trapezoid

Is the time-optimal carry's speed-limited advantage just the min-jerk shape? Against a tuned trapezoidal-velocity move it is only 0.4 to 2.9% at speed limits of 2 and 1 rad/s (46% over min-jerk), and 8.7 to 22.5% with no speed limit (stylised, assumed parameters).

What it found

A follow-up to robofab-jointspeed (stylised, preliminary): the min-jerk comparator is replaced by a trapezoidal-velocity move with a tuned ramp fraction, under the same torque, jaw-force and joint-speed limits. Over three arm sizes, three jaw caps and speed limits of 6 to 1 rad/s, the time-optimal profile beats the best trapezoid by only 0.4 to 2.9% at 2 and 1 rad/s (0.4 to 0.8% at 1 rad/s), against 46% over min-jerk, so the earlier ceiling was mostly the comparator. Without a speed limit it still wins by 8.7 to 22.5%. The smallest ramp fraction tried (0.01) binds in most tight-limit rows, so the small gap is bounded by the grid. All parameters are assumed; the speed limits are round numbers, not an actuator rating.
