Common questions

Does the EU Batteries Regulation apply to e-bikes and power banks?

Yes. Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 covers portable batteries, light-means-of-transport batteries such as e-bike packs, starter batteries, industrial batteries and electric vehicle batteries placed on the EU market, including batteries built into other products and products sold online from outside the EU.

When does the battery passport apply?

From 18 February 2027 for light-means-of-transport batteries, industrial batteries over 2 kWh and electric vehicle batteries. A QR code on the battery links to the digital record.

When do the battery label and removability rules apply?

The general information label applies from 18 August 2026. Users must be able to remove and replace portable batteries built into appliances from 18 February 2027.

Do I need an authorised representative to sell batteries into the EU from outside?

An EU-established manufacturer, importer or authorised representative must stand behind the battery, and a seller shipping to EU buyers needs an authorised representative for producer-responsibility registration in each country it sells into.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing is sent; a test in the code asserts there are no network calls.
