What it does, and what it leaves to you
- Covers: domestic B2B e-invoicing mandates in Germany, France, Belgium, Poland, Croatia, Greece, Italy and Spain, plus the EU ViDA date for intra-EU supplies.
- Gives: receive date, issue date by size band, format, penalties and a nudge if paper or PDF is not enough.
- Not decided: exemptions for specific transactions, B2C and B2G rules, your VAT group's treatment, whether your software is certified, and any date changed after this page was written.
After you pick a platform, validate real invoice files with the e-invoice preflight checker.
Common questions
Is e-invoicing mandatory for businesses in the EU?
Not EU-wide for domestic sales yet. Each Member State sets its own mandate and dates: Italy since 2019, Germany receiving from 2025 and issuing from 2027-2028, Belgium from January 2026, Poland from February-April 2026, France from September 2026-2027. The EU ViDA package makes it mandatory for intra-EU B2B supplies from 1 July 2030.
Is a PDF invoice an e-invoice?
No. Under these mandates an e-invoice is structured data (EN 16931 syntax such as UBL or CII, or a hybrid like Factur-X or ZUGFeRD), not a picture or a PDF of an invoice.
When must I start sending e-invoices in Germany?
Every business must be able to receive them since 1 January 2025. Issuing becomes mandatory on 1 January 2027 for businesses with prior-year turnover above EUR 800,000 and on 1 January 2028 for everyone else.
What do I need in France from September 2026?
Every business must be able to receive e-invoices through a certified platform from 1 September 2026. Large and mid-size companies must also issue them from that date, SMEs and micro-businesses from 1 September 2027.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing is sent; a test in the code asserts there are no network calls.
