EU PRICE REDUCTION CHECKER · RUNS IN YOUR BROWSER · NOTHING UPLOADED

Is your crossed-out price allowed?

Paste your price history, enter the sale price and the “was” price or percentage you want to advertise. You get the prior price the 30-day rule lets you show, the true discount, and a flag on anything that does not hold up.

After using this, you can now check a sale banner against your own price log in a minute, which used to mean counting back 30 days across a spreadsheet by hand. A first read written from the Directive without a live lookup; Member States differ in detail. It is not legal advice.

Selling to EU consumers also means the green claims check and GPSR product safety check may apply to your listings.

Common questions

What is the EU 30-day lowest price rule?

When a shop announces a price reduction, the previous price it shows must be the lowest price it applied in the 30 days before the reduction. This is Article 6a of the Price Indication Directive, added by the Omnibus Directive and applied since 28 May 2022.

Does the percentage off have to use the same prior price?

Yes. If a shop advertises a percentage reduction, it has to be calculated against that prior price, not against a list price or a price that was only briefly higher.

What if the product is new or the price drops in steps?

Member States may set different rules for goods on the market for under 30 days, for perishable goods and for progressive reductions, where the prior price is usually the price before the first reduction. Check your country.

Does raising the price just before a sale help?

No. The prior price is the lowest price in the 30 days, so a short rise does not move it.

What are the penalties?

They are set by each Member State, and for widespread infringements the Directive requires fines that can reach at least 4 percent of annual turnover in the countries concerned.

Is my price history uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing is sent; a test in the code asserts there are no network calls.
