Common questions
Does the European Accessibility Act apply to my business?
It applies to certain products (such as e-readers, smartphones, payment terminals and ATMs) and services (such as e-commerce, consumer banking, e-books, passenger transport and audiovisual media access) that are placed on the EU market or offered to consumers there, since 28 June 2025. Microenterprises providing services are exempt. The page applies those rules to what you sell and your size.
Is a small online shop covered by the Accessibility Act?
Yes if it sells to consumers in the EU and has 10 or more people, or turnover and balance sheet both above EUR 2 million. An online shop with fewer than 10 people and turnover or balance sheet of EUR 2 million or less is a microenterprise service provider and is exempt under Article 4(5).
Does the European Accessibility Act apply to businesses outside the EU?
Yes where they place products on the EU market or offer covered services to consumers in the EU. A non-EU maker of a covered product needs its importer to carry the manufacturer's checks.
What do I have to do if I am covered?
Service providers design the service to the Annex I requirements and publish accessibility information. Manufacturers also issue a declaration of conformity and the CE marking. Web content is usually tested against WCAG 2.1 level AA through the EN 301 549 standard.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing is sent; a test in the code asserts there are no network calls.
