WORKERS' COMP AUDIT DISPUTE CHECKER · RUNS IN YOUR BROWSER · NOTHING UPLOADED

Did your workers' comp audit overcharge you?

Type the lines from the carrier's audit worksheet next to what your own books say. The tool prices each gap in premium dollars — overtime premium pay, subcontractors who carry their own coverage, an officer outside the payroll band, payroll sitting in a costlier class — and names the record that would prove it. Rates are the ones printed on your audit.

Leave "in your records" blank to accept the audit's figure. Overtime is the full overtime wages; the tool excludes the premium share using the multiplier below.

Common questions

Can I dispute a workers' comp premium audit?

Yes. Carriers have a dispute or reconsideration process, and the window to use it is printed on the audit notice, so check the date first. Disputes are won with records: payroll registers, certificates of insurance and officer endorsements, not with a letter that only says the audit is too high.

Is overtime pay included in workers' comp audit payroll?

In most states only the straight-time part of overtime is premium basis, so at time-and-a-half one third of each overtime dollar is excluded. The auditor can only exclude what your payroll records show on a separate line. Check your own state and carrier rules.

Do I pay workers' comp premium on subcontractors?

If a subcontractor does not carry their own workers' compensation, carriers usually charge you for their payments as if they were employees. A certificate of insurance in force for the days they worked for you is what normally removes that charge, so collect it before the work, not after the audit.

Why is my executive officer payroll different on the audit?

Most states set a minimum and maximum payroll for an included executive officer, and the carrier charges within that band whatever the officer was actually paid. Whether an officer is included or excluded is set by an endorsement on your policy.

Is this legal or insurance advice?

No. It prices the gap between an audit worksheet and your own records using rates you type in. It does not look up class codes, rating rules or state limits, and your carrier's audit and your state's rules control.
