What it does, and what it leaves to you
- Counts: delivered sessions = slots x (1 - cancelled share); paid units = delivered + cancelled slots x share of rate collected; yearly income = paid units x rate x weeks; net = income x (1 - platform fee) - 12 x monthly expenses; hours a week = delivered x (session + prep minutes) / 60 + delivered x in-person share x travel minutes / 60 + admin hours; real hourly pay = net / (hours a week x weeks); the rate for a target = (target x yearly hours + yearly expenses) / (paid units x (1 - fee) x weeks).
- Not decided: what students near you will pay, whether demand fills the extra slots a higher rate would leave open, self-employment and income tax, health cover and retirement, school or agency contracts and background-check rules, and seasonal swings in demand.
Common questions
What is a private tutor's real hourly rate?
Your net pay for the year divided by every hour tutoring takes: the sessions, the prep before them, travel to students, admin such as scheduling and invoicing, after subtracting platform fees and expenses. It is usually well below the rate you quote, because only the session itself is billed.
How much should I charge per session?
The page works backwards from the hourly pay you want: the session rate that reaches it with your own schedule, prep, travel, cancellations and fees, and the rate at which you only break even. It does not know what tutors near you charge, so compare the result with local rates before changing a price.
Do cancellations and no-shows really matter?
Yes. A cancelled slot you cannot refill pays nothing, but it often still blocks the time. A written 24-hour cancellation policy with a fee, or prepaid blocks of sessions, recovers part of it. Enter the share of slots cancelled and the share of the rate you collect on them to see the yearly cost.
Should I count travel and prep time?
If you want your real hourly pay, yes. Unbilled time is the main reason tutors earn less per hour than they quote. Set prep and travel to zero to see the quoted-rate view.

No. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing is sent; a test in the code asserts there are no network calls.
