Time Tracker: free billable hours, then an invoice

Start a timer or add hours by hand, set a rate per project, round up the way you bill, and see exactly how much you have tracked but not yet invoiced. When it is time to bill, one button turns a client's unbilled hours into a draft in Invoice Maker. No account, no subscription, no limit, and nothing leaves your device.

Projects and billing

A project carries a client and an hourly rate. The rate on an entry beats the project's, and the project's beats the default.

Rounding is applied to each entry, so the hours on an invoice line add up to what this report shows. Tell clients your increment before you start; many contracts require it.

What it does and does not do

Common questions

Is this time tracker really free?

Yes. There is no account, no trial, no entry limit and no paywall on exports. It runs in your browser, so it costs nothing to serve, and it stays free.

Does the timer keep running if I close the tab?

Yes. A running timer is saved with its start time, so reopening the page shows the correct elapsed time. If you forget to stop it, the page flags a timer that has run more than twelve hours so you can correct the entry.

How does rounding to 6, 15 or 30 minutes work?

Each entry is rounded up to your increment before it is priced, and never rounded down to zero. Because the rounding happens per entry, the hours on an invoice line add up to the totals in the report. Tell clients your increment up front.

How do I turn tracked hours into an invoice?

Give each project a client and a rate, then press Invoice unbilled on a client. A draft invoice with one line per project and rate is added to Invoice Maker on this device, and those entries are marked billed so you cannot charge them twice. If your browser blocks that, you get a file to restore instead.

Can I mark time as non-billable?

Yes. Non-billable entries count toward your tracked hours and your billable share, but not toward money and never appear on an invoice.

Where is my time data stored?

In your browser on this device only. Clearing site data removes it, so use Download backup now and then; the file restores on any device. Nothing is uploaded.

Is this a timesheet I can use for payroll or legal billing?

No advice is given. It adds up the times and rates you enter. Payroll rules, overtime and contract billing terms vary by place and agreement, so check them before you rely on a report for either.

Can I give a client a timesheet to go with the invoice?

Yes. Pick the client and the range under Report, then press Print / Save as PDF in the Printable timesheet panel. It lists each entry with the time you worked and the time you billed after your billing increment, plus totals that match the invoice, and prints without the rest of the page.
