← 3PL inbound method calculator
Brands search for “3PL inbound fee” or “pallet inbound vs carton inbound” after a warehouse sends a rate card with three receiving lines. The card looks complete. The decision is still missing: at your units per pallet and units per carton, which line is the cheap one?
The arithmetic is the fee divided by the units in the container. A $10 pallet that holds 60 units is $0.17 per unit. A $1.50 carton that holds 6 units is $0.25 per unit. Loose / floor-unload receiving at $0.40 per unit is $0.40. On 480 inbound units that is $80 versus $120 versus $192 — a $112 monthly gap — before storage, pick, or shipping move at all.
Warehouses like loose receiving because it is easy to quote and hard to compare. You can often ship the same goods palletized, or ask the 3PL to receive against the pallet line, and keep the rest of the quote. A monthly minimum can still swallow the difference; the calculator shows that case instead of pretending the receiving line disappeared.
This is a different question from leftover pallets already on the floor, from restocking a return, and from paying the 3PL to kit. Those extras live on long-term storage, restock vs keep, and kitting.
Rates change by building, freight class, and appointment type. This page does not publish anyone’s live schedule. Open the inbound method calculator, type the three lines from your rate card, and see which method wins at your volume.
The result is arithmetic, not advice. It does not say you should palletize, change carriers, or sign a warehouse.
Usually, because the fee is divided by the units in the container. A $10 pallet that holds 60 units is $0.17 per unit. A $1.50 carton that holds 6 units is $0.25 per unit. Loose receiving at $0.40 per unit is $0.40. On 480 inbound units that is $80 versus $120 versus $192.
Yes. When the rest of the quote already sits under a monthly minimum, a cheaper receiving line does not change the normalized total. The inbound calculator shows that case instead of pretending the receiving line disappeared.
