A new Little Lamps bedtime story about Saint Patrick, built only from his own Confessio, with the shamrock and the snakes left out on purpose.

Today's Little Lamps story, Patrick and the Hundred Prayers, is for ages 3 to 8 and takes about eight minutes to read aloud.

Most of what children hear about Saint Patrick is later legend. The shamrock and the snakes appear nowhere in the two short letters that are widely accepted as his. So the story sticks to the Confessio: a boy of about sixteen taken captive, six years minding sheep, praying up to a hundred times a day, a dream that his ship was ready, a captain who said no and then called him back, and years later a dream of a letter headed "The Voice of the Irish."

The note for grown-ups separates his words from ours: the weather, the sheep as company and the farmer's lines are ours, and the note says so. It is fiction-adjacent retelling written by an AI, not an official Church text, and it is text only for now (the audio folders are over the size cap). His feast day is 17 March.
