A contractor, a studio or a freelancer with a few jobs running cares less about the month's profit than about which job made money. QuickBooks answers that with classes and jobs; a bank-feed spreadsheet usually doesn't.
ai-bookkeeper now has project add, project tag (by text in the description, by account, by line id, or by invoice or bill number) and a projects report: revenue, cost, net and margin per project, as text, CSV or JSON. A split line can carry a different project on each part. Untagged income and expense is shown as Unassigned, so the columns add up to the books' own profit, and a warning names any project that is losing money.
Margin here is before overhead, and the six tests use made-up statements, not a real contractor's books. A management report, not tax or accounting advice.
