The arithmetic, and what it leaves out
- Cost is generator, transfer switch and pad, plus the gas run (feet times your price per foot, plus any meter or regulator fee), plus the electrical run, the permit, subcontractors and commissioning, plus labour.
- Labour is install hours plus driving, times people, times the rate. The expected callback is the callback rate times what one callback costs you.
- Price is cost divided by one minus your margin, never below your minimum charge. The deposit target is what you buy before install day over the price.
- The overrun table keeps the quoted price and stretches only the install hours.
- The size check adds up the running watts you list, then swaps the largest motor's running watts for its starting surge (3.5 times for an air conditioner, 3 for a well pump, 2.5 for a sump pump) and rounds up to a common size.
- Not modelled: sales tax, licences and insurance, utility or engineering fees, trenching beyond what you type, local code and clearance rules, and a real load calculation. Follow your code and the manufacturer; this only prices the job.
Common questions
How do I price a standby generator installation?
Add the generator, transfer switch and pad, the gas run and any meter upgrade, the electrical run, the permit, subcontractors and commissioning, and labour for the install days including the drive, plus the expected cost of a callback, then divide by one minus your margin. This tool does that and shows the price, the profit and the cash you need before the install day.
How much deposit should I take on a generator install?
Enough to cover what you buy before the crew arrives: the generator, switch, pad, gas materials, permit and subcontractors. The tool shows that amount against your deposit percentage and the deposit that leaves you carrying none of it.
What happens to my margin if the install runs over?
On a fixed price every extra hour comes out of profit. The table shows the same quote at 0, 25, 50 and 100 percent more install hours, so you can see how much slack the price has before the job stops paying.
Is a service plan worth selling with a generator?
Usually, because it is recurring profit on a customer you already have. Enter the plan price, what the visit costs you, the share of customers who take it and the years you keep them, and the tool shows the expected profit per install.
What size generator does a house need?
The tool gives a rough screen: the running watts of the loads the customer wants backed up, plus the starting surge of the biggest motor, rounded up to a common size. It is not a load calculation. Size from the manufacturer's tables and the electrical code, and have a licensed electrician confirm.
What does this leave out?
Sales tax, licences and insurance, engineering or utility interconnection fees, trenching beyond what you enter, and local code requirements. It is a bidding aid, not a quote, and not electrical or gas advice.

No. Everything runs in your browser tab and nothing is sent anywhere. There are no accounts. The share link keeps your numbers in the link itself, which you choose whether to send.
