See whether Shop Pay Installments still pay after the extra fee.

Paste the Shopify Payments card rate and the Shop Pay Installments rate from a payout. The table keeps the same ticket, then blends a month at the share of checkouts that actually use installments, and shows the extra orders you need for that mix to match turning installments off.

What this checks

Merchants search “Shop Pay Installments merchant fee” because the installment rate looks expensive next to a 2.9% card. The missing piece is mix. Most checkouts still pay with a card or Shop Pay; only a share uses installments. A 3-point gap on 15% of orders is a smaller monthly hole than the sticker rate, and a small conversion lift can cover it.

It does not recommend turning installments on or off, and it is not tax or financial advice. Compare PayPal vs Shopify Payments, POS vs online fees, or Shopify Shipping vs your own label, or store credit vs a cash refund, or Shopify Capital vs waiting on the main Shopify fee calculator when the question is processor, counter, postage, a return, or merchant funding — not installment mix.

Common questions

How much extra does Shop Pay Installments cost the merchant?

Shop Pay Installments is usually a higher Shopify Payments rate than a regular card or Shop Pay card checkout. Enter the installment rate from a payout or the Shop Pay Installments line in admin — this page does not publish Affirm's or Shopify's live schedule. The extra fee is that rate gap on the order total, including shipping charged.

When do Shop Pay Installments still pay?

They pay when extra conversion covers the extra fee on the share of checkouts that use installments. This calculator shows the extra fee on one ticket, the blended month at your installment share, and the lift (extra orders) needed to match turning installments off at the same volume. Type extra monthly orders if you already see a lift.
