FOR SHOPIFY MERCHANTS
Merchants search this because Grow’s monthly bill is higher, but the processing rates on the plan picker are usually lower. The only number that turns that into a decision is volume: extra monthly plan cost divided by what each order saves in fees on your payment path.
This page uses the same illustrative US online defaults as the Shopify fee calculator. Replace them with the rates on your current statements. It does not publish Shopify’s live schedule and it does not recommend a plan — higher tiers also change features this arithmetic cannot see.
Calculating…
| Plan | Monthly | Fees / order | Fee + plan / month | vs Basic |
|---|
“vs Basic” here is the monthly fee-and-plan gap, not net profit. Cost of goods is the same on every plan, so it cancels. Open the full calculator to include shipping you pay, packaging, and a target margin.
On the illustrative defaults, Grow is $66 more per month than Basic ($105 − $39). Shopify Payments drops from 2.9% to 2.7% on the same $54 order — eleven cents. $66 ÷ $0.108 is about 612 orders/month before Grow’s rates cover the extra subscription.
On a third-party path the Shopify transaction fee often drops as well (2% → 1% on those same defaults). That is 54 cents more saved on the same $54 order, so Grow can cover the extra $66 at a much lower volume. If most checkouts already use Shopify Payments, use that path; if they use PayPal, use that one. Mixing them needs a weighted average you can approximate by changing the order total and volume.
Advanced and Plus follow the same rule: extra monthly cost divided by per-order fee savings. The full calculator ranks all four plans on your real costs, not just fees.
Grow costs more each month and usually charges a lower Shopify Payments rate and a lower third-party transaction fee. It starts paying from those rates alone when monthly orders times the per-order fee savings exceed the extra monthly plan cost. Enter the rates from your statements — this page does not publish Shopify's live schedule.
Yes. On a third-party processor path, Shopify's extra transaction fee often drops when you move up a plan, so the per-order savings can be larger than on Shopify Payments and Grow can cover its extra monthly cost at a lower volume.
