Common questions

How much of my freelance income should I set aside for tax in Singapore?

It depends on profit: the first S$20,000 of chargeable income is untaxed and rates climb from 2% to 24%, so a freelancer on S$90,000 profit sets aside roughly 5% of profit while one on S$250,000 sets aside far more. Enter your income and expenses for a number built from the actual IRAS bands.

Is there provisional tax in Singapore?

No. IRAS taxes income earned in a calendar year in the next Year of Assessment: file Form B by 18 April, receive a Notice of Assessment, then usually pay by GIRO instalments over up to 12 months. Keep the money aside until then.

Do freelancers pay CPF?

Self-employed people do not have to make CPF Ordinary Account contributions, but those with net trade income above S$6,000 must contribute to MediSave. This tool flags it but does not calculate it.

When must I register for GST?

When taxable turnover exceeds S$1 million in a calendar year or is expected to in the next 12 months. GST you collect belongs to IRAS, so keep it out of your set-aside.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing is sent.
