Page SEO Audit · guide

On-page SEO checklist for a single page

These are the checks Page SEO Audit runs, in order of how much a miss costs. All of them are visible in the page source; none needs a paid tool.

Things that can remove you from results

noindex

A <meta name="robots" content="noindex"> left over from staging tells engines to drop the page. Check it first on any page that is not appearing.

Structured data that does not parse

A trailing comma in JSON-LD makes the whole block invisible. Engines do not warn you; they skip it. Validate the JSON before you publish.

Text that only exists after JavaScript

Many crawlers and most AI assistants read the raw HTML. If the served document is an empty <div id="app">, they see an empty page. Server-render or pre-render the main content.

Things that shape how you look in results

Title (about 30–60 characters)

The headline of your result. Lead with what the page is, then the brand. Every page gets its own.

Meta description (about 70–160 characters)

Not a ranking factor, but it is the sales copy under the title and is often used as the snippet.

One h1 and an orderly outline

Headings are the table of contents that screen readers, engines and AI summarisers navigate by. Do not skip levels.

Canonical link

States the one preferred URL, so ?utm_source= variants and www/non-www copies do not split signals. Make it absolute.

Open Graph tags

og:title, og:description and og:image decide the card shown when someone shares the page in chat or social feeds, which is free distribution you control.

Things that help machines and people

JSON-LD

Match the type to the page: SoftwareApplication, Product, Article, FAQPage, Organization. If the page has visible question-and-answer pairs, mark them up as FAQPage with the same text.

Image alt text, descriptive link text, viewport, lang

Alt text feeds image search and accessibility; "click here" tells a crawler nothing about the target; the viewport tag is the mobile-friendly baseline; lang helps translation and screen readers.

Limits: markup only. Speed, backlinks, content quality and competition are outside what a single page's source can show, so a perfect score is not a ranking promise.
