FEIE PHYSICAL PRESENCE CALCULATOR · RUNS IN YOUR BROWSER

Have you been abroad 330 days yet?

List your stays in foreign countries. You get your best 12-month window, how many of the 330 full days you have, how many days you can still spend elsewhere, the first date you reach 330, and the prorated foreign earned income exclusion for the tax year.

Your dates, not tax advice. Every value is editable and nothing is uploaded: dates are used in this browser tab only.

Your stays abroad

One stay per line, first and last full day inclusive, YYYY-MM-DD to YYYY-MM-DD. Leave out the days you travelled: a day counts only if you were in a foreign country from midnight to midnight.

Common questions

How many days do I need for the physical presence test?

330 full days in a foreign country within any 12 consecutive months. A full day is 24 hours from midnight to midnight, so a day you fly in or out does not count. On the sample dates the best 12-month span holds 347 full foreign days, 17 more than needed, so up to 35 days of that span could be spent anywhere else.

Can the 12 months start on any day?

Yes: the 12-month period does not have to be a calendar year and can start on any day, so the calculator slides a 12-month window across your dates and reports the one with the most foreign days. It also reports the first date a window holds 330 days (2025-09-04 on the sample).

How much income can I exclude?

Up to the annual limit ($130,000 for 2025, entered as an editable figure), prorated by the days of the tax year that fall in your qualifying period and never more than your foreign earned income. On the sample, $95,000 of income is fully excluded. Check the current limit and your eligibility with the IRS or a tax professional.

Is this tax advice?

No. It counts the days you type and nothing is uploaded. It does not decide whether you have a tax home abroad, what counts as earned income, or whether to elect the exclusion, and it is not a substitute for Form 2555 instructions or a qualified professional.
