Verdict
Verdict: keep means it clears your target wage; reprice-or-cut means it earns something but less than an hour of your time is worth; losing means each visit costs you money.
On the default numbers a Saturday market with $900 in sales and a $45 booth fee clears $448.62 over 9 hours, $49.85 an hour, while a big festival with $1,100 in sales, a $200 fee plus 10 percent of sales and a long drive clears $220.98 over 16 hours, $13.81 an hour. Enter your own numbers; the fee is only one of the costs.
How do I work out my break-even sales at a market?
Divide the booth fee plus drive cost by the share of each sale you keep after product cost, waste, card fees and any percentage the market takes. On the defaults that is $115.42 at the Saturday market and $631.62 at the festival.
How much do I need to sell to earn my target wage?
Add your target wage times the hours to the fixed costs and divide by the same share. At $25.00 an hour the festival needs about $1,479.44 in sales, against the $1,100 it makes.
Does this give business or tax advice?
