How much does Facebook Marketplace take per sale?

Facebook Marketplace charges a 10% selling fee on a shipped checkout order, applied to the buyer-paid total -- the item price plus any buyer-paid shipping, and sales tax where Facebook collects it -- with an $0.80 minimum fee per sale. A sale arranged for local pickup instead carries no selling fee at all. The rate has changed more than once in the last two years, so a number quoted from an old blog post or forum thread may already be stale.

The shipped-order formula

fee = max(10% × (item price + buyer-paid shipping), $0.80)

payout = item price + buyer-paid shipping − fee − your own shipping-label cost

Local pickup skips the formula entirely: the fee is $0, so the payout is simply the item price minus whatever you spent on the item and packaging.

Worked example 1: $50 item, shipped, no buyer-paid shipping

LineAmount
Item price$50.00
Selling fee (10% of $50.00)$5.00
Payout$45.00

Worked example 2: the $0.80 minimum takes over on a small sale

LineAmount
Item price$5.00
10% of $5.00 would be$0.50
Selling fee actually charged ($0.80 minimum)$0.80
Payout$4.20

Not $4.50 (item price minus 10%) -- once the buyer-paid total falls under $8, the $0.80 minimum is the binding fee, not the 10% rate. This is the detail sellers who mentally calculate "just take 10% off" get wrong on small sales.

Shipping counts toward the fee base too

A $50 item with $10 in buyer-paid shipping pays 10% of the combined $60, which is $6.00 -- not 10% of the $50 item price alone. The payout is $54.00 ($60.00 collected minus the $6.00 fee), assuming you did not also pay for your own shipping label.

Local pickup: genuinely $0

LineAmount
Item price$50.00
Selling fee$0.00
Payout$50.00

No selling fee, listing fee, or subscription cost applies to a sale arranged for local pickup rather than Facebook's shipped checkout.

Do this with your own listings

The Facebook Marketplace fee calculator runs this same arithmetic on your own item price, shipping, and costs, flags when the $0.80 minimum is the binding fee, models a disputed order's flat $20 chargeback penalty, and solves for the price you need to hit a target profit. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

Common questions

How much does Facebook Marketplace take on a $50 sale?

For a shipped checkout order with no buyer-paid shipping: 10% of $50, which is $5.00, leaving a $45.00 payout.

How much does Facebook Marketplace take on a small $5 sale?

10% of $5 would be $0.50, but Facebook charges an $0.80 minimum fee on every shipped order, so the fee is $0.80, not $0.50 -- leaving a $4.20 payout instead of the $4.50 a flat 10% calculation would suggest.

Nothing. Local pickup sales carry no selling fee, listing fee, or subscription cost -- the full item price is the payout, minus whatever you spent on the item and packaging yourself.
