Compare a second scenario (B)
Scenario A is the numbers above. Change only what differs: for example a bigger fleet with the lower utilization you expect, or different prices.
How it works
Slots. Each bike has two half-day slots a day. A full-day rental uses both. Utilization is the share of slots rented, set separately for busy and quiet days. Revenue is rented slots times the blended price per slot, plus add-ons per rental.
Costs are damage and theft and card fees as a share of revenue, staff for every open day, rent, insurance, marketing, wear and charging per rented slot, batteries per rental, and a fleet replacement reserve: bike cost less resale, spread over the seasons you keep it. Payback is start-up cost divided by yearly operating profit after that reserve, before the loan.
Break-even and the lowest prices are solved exactly, because operating profit is a straight line in utilization and in the price level, then checked by typing them back in. Not included: taxes, claims and deductibles, weather risk beyond the utilization you choose, and growth in later seasons.
Common questions
How much does an e-bike rental business make?
It depends on the size of the fleet, how many days you are open and how many of your bikes are out on those days. The calculator turns your bikes, busy and quiet days, utilization, prices, staff, rent and other costs into profit for a season, so you can see which assumption the answer depends on.
What utilization does an e-bike rental shop need to break even?
The calculator solves it exactly from your own costs: the share of half-day slots that must be rented, over the whole season, for profit after any loan payments to reach zero. Staff and rent do not fall when fewer bikes go out, so break-even is often higher than owners expect.
How many e-bikes should I buy?
Add bikes in scenario B and enter the utilization you honestly expect with the bigger fleet. Each added bike costs money but is rented fewer days than the first ones, so compare total profit, profit per bike and payback side by side before you buy.
How much should I charge for an e-bike rental?
The calculator solves the lowest half-day and full-day prices, keeping your price ratio, that break even, reach your target margin and meet your payback target at the utilization you entered. Compare them with what other local renters charge before you set prices.
Does this include the cost of replacing the bikes?
Yes, as a yearly fleet replacement reserve: the bike cost less what you expect to sell it for, spread over the seasons you keep it. Batteries are charged per rental, and tires, brakes and charging per rented slot.
Does this include insurance claims, permits or sales tax?
Only the yearly insurance and other costs you type. It does not model liability claims, deductibles, permits, licences, sales or income tax. Check those with your insurer, your city and a tax professional.
