Devices on this visit
Add a row for each backflow assembly being tested at this property, with that device's test fee. Check "failed" for any device that needs a retest.
Add each device and its test fee, then click Calculate quote.

What this does and doesn't do
This calculator totals the fee schedule you enter against the devices on one job. It does not test anything and does not determine whether a device passed or failed — that judgment is yours. It also does not know your water utility's required report form, filing deadline, or device-type requirements, which vary by state and by utility. Confirm those against your local cross-connection control program before invoicing or filing.
Common questions
How much should I charge to test multiple backflow devices at one property?
Most testers charge full price for the first device on a visit, then a reduced fee for each additional device on the same property — since the travel and setup time is already covered by the first device's fee — plus a per-device report-filing fee, since most water utilities require a separate submitted report for each assembly.
Why does the report-filing fee apply to every device, even with a multi-device discount?
The multi-device discount reflects shared travel and setup time on one visit, not shared paperwork. Most water utilities require a separate test report submitted for every device — passed or failed — so the filing fee is charged per device regardless of the testing discount.
How should a failed device be billed?
This calculator assumes a failed device is retested on the same visit, billed at a flat retest fee with no added travel charge. If a failed device needs a separate return trip — for example waiting on a repair part — add that trip's travel fee separately; this calculator only totals the fee schedule you enter, it does not schedule or track return visits.
Does this tell me if a device passed or failed, or what my water utility requires?
No. This calculator only totals your own fee schedule against the devices on one job. It does not test anything, does not determine pass or fail, and does not know your water utility's required report form, filing deadline, or device-type requirements — those vary by state and by utility. Confirm those against your local cross-connection control program.
Is this compliance or regulatory advice?
No. It applies the fee schedule and discount you configure to the devices you enter — it is not legal, engineering, or regulatory advice, and it does not replace checking your water utility's own backflow-testing requirements.
