FOR MAKERS SELLING 3D-PRINTED PARTS ON ETSY, SHOPIFY, OR AT A CRAFT TABLE

"3x the filament cost" isn't a price. It's a guess.

Filament is rarely the biggest cost in a print — electricity, printer wear, failed attempts, post-processing time, and the marketplace's own cut out of your listed price all add up quietly. This free calculator prices one print from all of them, solves for what to charge so the fee and your target margin both clear, and lets you check a price you're already charging against the real break-even.

Already have a cost figure from your slicer? Here's what it does and doesn't cover.

Still pricing by "filament cost times three"? Here's what that rule can't see.

Wondering what a scrapped print actually costs you? Worked example: 5% vs. 25% failure rate.

This is a planning number from what you typed, not an audited cost. It does not add sales tax, shipping charged to the buyer, or a listing fee unless you fold those into other cost yourself.

Private by default

Everything on this page runs in your browser. Your costs and prices are never uploaded, there is no account, and nothing is saved when you close the tab unless you choose to save it. We count only anonymous local feature events (price-calculated, price-checked, gcode_imported) so we can tell whether the calculator gets used — no costs or prices are recorded, and Do Not Track / Global Privacy Control turn it off automatically.

The Save button writes your scenario to this browser's own local storage on this device only, and Forget deletes it. Copy shareable link puts the same numbers in the page's URL fragment instead of a server — nothing about your scenario leaves your device either way, but whoever holds the link can read it.

Common questions

Why does the calculator inflate cost for a failure rate instead of just adding a flat buffer?

Because a failed print still burns filament, electricity, and printer hours before it gets scrapped, and the eventual successful print has to earn that back. On average, 1/(1 − failure rate) attempts are needed to land one sellable part, so material, electricity, and machine wear are multiplied by that factor rather than by a flat percentage guess.

Why is the marketplace fee subtracted from the price instead of added to the cost?

Because the fee is a percentage of whatever you charge, not a fixed dollar amount, so it cannot be added as a cost line the way filament or electricity can. The calculator solves price×(1 − fee%) − cost = price×(margin%) for price directly, so the number you see already clears the fee at your target margin.

Does post-processing labor or packaging get inflated by the failure rate too?

No. Post-processing time and packaging only ever happen once, on the part that actually sells — a failed print never reaches sanding or a shipping box. Only filament, electricity, and printer depreciation are multiplied, since those are what a failed attempt actually spends.

Does anything I type get uploaded?

No. Every field on this page runs in your browser only. Nothing is sent to a server, there is no account, and nothing you type is saved anywhere unless you choose to save it. Usage counting only tallies anonymous feature events, and you can turn it off with the button above. Cutting sheet goods or boards instead of printing? See the Cut List Optimizer, which prices a cutting plan from sheet and board cost the same way this tool prices a print from filament, electricity, and printer wear.

Taking your prints to a craft fair or maker market? The craft fair booth calculator works out what one booth has to sell to cover its fee, mileage, and your own hours — it takes the materials percentage this tool derives and turns it into a go/no-go on the show.

Decorating garments rather than printing parts? The screen printing and embroidery price calculator costs a job the same way — a one-off setup spread over the run, plus machine time and material per piece — for screens, stitches, or DTF transfers.

Building the electronics that go inside the print? The AI Engineering Academy's free electronics calculators size an LED's series resistor, a voltage divider, an RC filter, and a 555 timer — browser-local, nothing uploaded.

Running a fitness or dance studio and pricing your own hours? The studio class slot optimizer shows which timetable slots pay for their instructor — browser-local, nothing uploaded.
