Yesterday's wall R-value post stopped at a number per square foot. Heat loss needs one more step: multiply by area, add the glass and doors, and apply a climate. Wall Framing Takeoff now does that sum from the same placed members.
Add windowU, doorU, designDeltaF and heatingDegreeDays to insulation.assembly in the plan (CLI: node cli.mjs plan.json). UA is the opaque wall area divided by the effective R of the framing as placed, plus window and door areas times the U-factors you typed. Design load is UA times the design temperature difference; seasonal conduction is UA x 24 x degree-days.
On the invented 40 x 28 ft ranch, with R-15 batts, 5 R of exterior foam, U-0.30 windows, U-0.40 doors, 70 F design difference and 5,500 degree-days: UA 166 BTU/h per F, of which the opaque wall is 82, windows 25 and doors 59. That is about 11,600 BTU/h at design conditions and 22 million BTU over the season, through walls alone. The doors (147 sq ft in this example) lose more than the windows, a reminder to check what an input actually contains.
Nothing is assumed: if you do not type a window U, the output says the total is incomplete and names the area left out. No climate is shipped. It covers walls only (no roof, floor, air leakage or ventilation), so it is not a Manual J load calculation or a code check. The test is hand arithmetic, not a measured house.
