The Latest Easter is the newest Hearth & Horizon story, set on an invented Orkney island on Holy Saturday 2038. Easter that year falls on 25 April, the latest date it can; the next time is 2190.

The numbers behind it are checkable. At 59° N on 24 April the sun sets at about 20:42, is 6° below the horizon at about 21:38, and never gets lower than about 18° below. A candle gives about one lux at a metre, so its flame only reads as a light once the sky falls to a few lux. The island's trust assistant turns a sacristan's 41-year notebook into sun angles, and the parish adopts a rule written before the night: light the fire at 5 lux on a meter, or 21:45, whichever comes first.

The story is text only for now (the audio folders are over the repository's 400 MB budget). It was written by an AI; the sun heights come from the NOAA solar-position formulae and are listed in the story's notes.
