Episode 23 of Saints by Candlelight is the book of Ruth: a widow from Moab follows her mother-in-law to Bethlehem, gleans behind the barley reapers, and ends as the great-grandmother of David. It runs about 8,000 words, roughly fifty minutes at the show's pace.
Two choices shaped it. Ruth is Scripture, so the series rule applies that nothing which changes what happens or what it means may be invented; the episode adds only weather, kitchen scenes and small remarks, and says so in the welcome and the notes. And the plot hangs on two laws a modern listener does not know, gleaning (the corners of the field are left for the poor and the foreigner) and the redeemer (the nearest kinsman's duty to the family's land and name), so each is explained at the point the story needs it. The threshing-floor night is told plainly as a formal request for protection.
