Little Lamps, the saints' bedtime shelf for ages 3 to 8, has a new story: Ambrose and the Bees, for his feast on 7 December. The bees that came and went from the sleeping baby's mouth without a sting are in the Vita Ambrosii by his secretary Paulinus, written about 422, so the story tells them as the Life's tale rather than as history. The grown-ups' note at the end says which lines are Paulinus, which are ours, and that we have not checked his Latin word for word.
