Bid leveling

Type the scope (item, qty, unit, optional unitPrice) and each bidder's lines (item, qty, and unitPrice or amount). The tool lines every bid up against the scope, prices what a bid left out or came up short on, and ranks the bids as written and once leveled. Nothing leaves your browser.

Do the whole house: the takeoff makes the scope lines for you, then levels bids with --level-bids

How it is counted

  1. Match. Each bid line is matched to a scope line by name, ignoring case and punctuation. A name that matches nothing is reported, not dropped silently.
  2. Short quantity. If a bid's quantity is below the scope's by more than the tolerance (5% unless you set tolerance), the shortfall is added at the bid's own unit price. A larger quantity is flagged and left in.
  3. Left out. A missing line is added at the scope line's price, else the median of the other bids' unit prices. With neither it is listed as unleveled.

Questions

What is bid leveling?

Bid leveling puts subcontractor bids on the same scope. One bidder prices fewer sheets, another leaves an item out. Each gap is priced, so the bids can be compared as if each covered the same work.

How does this tool price a missing item?

At the bidder's own unit price where it gave a short quantity, else at the scope line's price you typed, else at the median of the other bids. With none of those the item is listed as unleveled and never guessed.

Does this tool know what lumber or labor costs?

No. It ships no prices. Every quantity and price is from your scope and your bids. The sample is made up and only shows the format.
