Common questions
Does this calculator decide whether an animal is safe or healthy enough to groom?
No. This tool only does arithmetic on the time and cost of a groom you have already decided to do. It does not assess animal welfare, temperament, or health, and it never will. A severely matted coat can hide skin damage, sores, or irritation that needs a veterinarian or vet tech rather than a bigger invoice, and a fearful or aggressive animal is a safety call for the groomer, not a pricing input. If you are not confident an animal is fit and safe to groom, refer it out — do not use this calculator to price around that judgment call.
Why does severe matting require checking a box before it prices?
Matting that reaches the skin can hide cuts, pressure sores, or skin infection underneath, and shaving it out can worsen an injury that was not visible from the surface. The calculator will not turn a severe-matting selection into a quote until you confirm you have actually checked the skin and judged the animal safe to groom — the same way it will not print a negative price when fees and margin exceed 100%. This is not a substitute for that judgment; it only refuses to let the judgment be skipped silently.
How is the base groom time calculated from size and coat?
Each weight tier has a base number of minutes for bathing, drying, and grooming — 45 for a small dog under 25 lb up to 105 for a giant dog over 90 lb — multiplied by a coat factor: 1.0 for short/smooth coats, 1.15 for medium, 1.35 for long or double coats, and 1.6 for curly or doodle coats that need real brush-out and scissor time. Matting minutes and any add-on minutes are added on top of that base.
What happens if the payment fee and target margin together claim the whole price?
The page flags it instead of printing a number. If fee percent plus margin percent reaches or passes 100%, no price can satisfy both claims at once — the tool shows this as unreachable rather than a negative or infinite "quote," which would read as real advice.
Is my pricing or customer information uploaded anywhere?
No. The calculation and the proposal both run in your browser; your saved business details and any usage counts stay in local storage on this device, never sent to a server, and the opt-out checkbox above turns usage counting off entirely.
Hand the customer a proposal
The price above is for you. This is the page you print or save as a PDF and give to the customer — your business details, their details, the scope, the deposit split, and a line for them to sign. Your business details are saved on this device so you only type them once; the customer’s details are never saved.
Everything on the printed page is text you typed or a number this calculator worked out. It contains no warranty, veterinary, or animal-health determination — those depend on your own judgment and a veterinarian's, and this tool is not the place to invent them.
