How to choose a CI provider by build minutes

Put your build minutes per month and growth rate into the calculator to price GitHub Actions, CircleCI, GitLab, Bitbucket Pipelines and Buildkite side by side. These are the questions to settle before you trust the answer.

Why do CI prices differ so much at the same build-minute volume?

Some vendors sell a per-seat plan with a pool of included minutes (GitLab, Bitbucket), others bill pure pay-as-you-go minutes (GitHub Actions beyond its free allowance, Buildkite hosted agents), and the per-minute rate varies by more than a factor of two. At 10,000 Linux minutes a month the cheapest and most expensive list prices in the calculator differ by more than four times.

What matters more than the per-minute price?

Minutes you do not use. Caching dependencies, cancelling superseded runs, path filters and right-sized runners usually cut a CI bill more than switching vendor. Also check concurrency limits and queue time: a cheap provider that makes developers wait costs more in salary than it saves.

When should I switch CI providers?

When the 12-month spend under your growth rate differs enough to pay for the migration, which means rewriting pipeline config, moving secrets and re-tuning caches. Run the calculator with your growth rate before deciding, and remember macOS and Windows minutes bill at multiples of Linux.
